AgVision got its start in 1976 as the business services division of the Iowa Grain and Feed Association (IGFA).
To expand marketing and service areas, the division entered into a joint venture in 1988 with Dairyland Midwest Inc., a software technology corporation created to take over that division.
By 1992, Dairyland assumed full ownership of the technology division venture and began using the name AgVision.
“AgVision was chosen as a result of an employee contest to identify a strong brand name,” says Vice President Shelley Laracuente. She and her husband Jose have owned the company since 1996. They registered the trademark “AgVision” in 2000.
“AgVision best represented what the company did and planned to do: provide computer software and hardware technology for managing information and products for agribusinesses then and in the future,” she explains.
Capabilities
Using Windows desktop and server platforms, plus internet solutions, Laracuente says AgVision helps customers:
• Produce daily/monthly storage position records; create grower statements, proof of yield, and merchandising reports.
• Create and follow payment schedules; track freight and make payments to transportation companies; and pay growers by check or ACH.
• Track the grades, identity, and traits of commodities; process commodities to produce blends and mixes, then clean, sort or size by lot number into any size bin, container, or bag.
• Determine the value of grain and sell it knowing the margins. j
