As Mid-Continent Industries (MCi) celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2019, the family-owned, Newton, KS-based company continues founder Glenn Wells’ legacy, with wife Donna and sons Steven and Darren leading the company.
According to Vice President Darren Wells, MCi’s name comes from Glenn’s first company, Mid-Continent Service & Supply. “Dad was a grain coop manager for about 10 years before they started their rental service for Newton Grain Cleaners.
“In 1989, there was a need for manufacturing the cleaners, so he started MCi and kept some of the rental company’s name.”
Grain Testing Equipment
The MCi Kicker laboratory grain cleaner was quickly developed by customer request with initial sales beginning in 1990. Next, the MCi Auto Kicker was launched in 1991 – again by customer request – with primary sales starting in 1992 as an automated barley malt sizing system.
“Since we introduced the MCi Auto Kicker, the grain industry has recognized it as a very valuable tool for helping automate their grain testing procedures,” explains Wells. “Auto Kicker owners commonly have been able to reduce grain grading and scales operation staff. This allows those people to be utilized elsewhere and more productively.”
In addition to grain cleaners and testers, MCi manufactures numerous custom metal fabrication devices and tooling for other companies.
