“Your name either needs to say what you do or say what you’re focused on,” says John Mueller, corporate manager at Food Protection Services (FPS).
And stored grain product protection is clearly the mission for this Carmel, IN-based company. As its website says: “If pests eat or damage it, we protect it.”
Mueller says the idea for the company started in 2005 when he was running a fumigation company.
“We started a joint venture with another fumigation company, and we were hiring people from the food processing industry to run the joint venture,” recalls Mueller.
“The joint venture was really focused more toward food safety and protection, than pest management. Because of this new emphasis, we came to Food Protection Services as the name of the company.”
Expansive Growth
Since that beginning in 2005, FPS has grown to 74 employees with four regional offices covering 20 states.
FPS offers both product sales and for-hire fumigations in the grain, seed, milling, and food processing, industries. It also offers full-service ship fumigations.
The company’s pest management services include rodent control, insect trapping, pheromone monitoring, and bird control.
Mueller adds that the company’s empty bin or storage treatment service is excellent for preparing storage for the next crop cycle.
Additionally, FPS offers training and product stewardship to maintain personnel and product safety.
