Manlift and Millwright Service and Installation for 44 Years

History

PMI has a long history of providing uniquely valuable services to the bulk material handling, processing, and agricultural industries. The performance and appearance of PMI projects are the result of more than 200 years of combined staff experience in millwright and manlift design and services.

The company was officially born in 1975 as an internal division of Todd & Sargent Construction Co., focusing on manlift service and installation, and later expanding to include millwright services. For more than 25 years, the PMI division excelled in executing large millwright projects and belt lift replacements on a nationwide basis.

In 2001, Gary Sondgeroth acquired the company and spun off as an independent entity, along with several key personnel, renaming it PMI Iowa, LLC. Prior to the purchase, Sondgeroth had worked in several key positions at Todd & Sargent for 18 years.

According to Sales Manager/Project Manager Miguel Rangel, “Gary’s vision for the company after he acquired it was to provide individualized and personalized service to our client relationships down to the smallest details. Focusing on our unique expertise while integrating that into our customer relationships is how he positioned the company for growth and success.”

In 2007, PMI relocated operations from its previous 100-foot-x-100-foot building to its current location on 5 acres with dedicated office and shop buildings. The following year, the company began developing its unique, modular prefabricated lift tower with a prototype system that was built outside on a custom jig.

Today, PMI is 60-employees strong and continues to invest and innovate its modular prefabricated lift tower while providing both millwright and lift elevator service and installation projects.

Philosophy

PMI’s philosophy is driven by the core values of quality, safety, and integrity. These values are expressed clearly in the company’s motto: “Devoted to quality, safety-minded, integrity-driven.”

“Our corporate values are ingrained in every aspect of our culture, process, and operation,” says Sales Manager/Project Manager Miguel Rangel.

He explains that PMI’s core values also are a lens for reviewing and decision-making according to the highest ethical standards. In fact, the company screens every potential new employee using specialized assessment processes and tools to determine a fit with PMI’s core values, a non-negotiable requirement to even be considered for joining the team.

Additionally, the company evaluates all PMI team members from top to bottom for daily exhibition of seven key behaviors that embody its core values as part of the company’s standard human resources and performance review processes.

Further, PMI employs a full-time environmental health and safety manager, received The Heartland Group safety award for many years, and boasts a current 2020 mod rate of 0.85.

“We engage our clients in a consultative, collaborative, and results-oriented relationship to deliver solutions that achieve optimal value and best overall return,” he adds. “Turnkeying most of our jobs guarantees the highest quality. Self-performing and closely supervising our subcontractors ensures the highest of finish qualities and workmanship we are proud to stand behind.”

Products

PMI is recognized as an industry leader in developing innovative ideas for manlift design and solutions using the latest technologies. “We set the standards for turnkey-designed, engineered, and executed with the highest quality,” says Rangel. “We have a long history of providing services to the bulk material handling, processing, and agricultural industries, with more than two centuries of combined experience across our staff in millwright and manlift services.”

The company has developed a strong reputation in the industry for replacing belt lifts with enclosed-traction manlifts as well as other new manlift installations. It also specializes in bulk material handling installations, maintenance and repair, expansions and improvements to facilities, as well as new design/build construction projects. This includes grain elevators, processing plants, feed mills, river terminals, seed processing facilities, pet food plants, power plants, and other bulk material handling operations.

PMI provides service through its Millwright division, Lift division, and Fabrication division. The company’s modular prefabricated lift towers are built at its facility in Ames, IA.

The company’s team of experienced millwrights offer new construction, plant renovation, and equipment maintenance for virtually any application. The Millwright division offers equipment install, maintenance, and repair for receiving pits, bucket elevators, conveyors, distributors, gates, spouting, storage tanks, temporary storage, reclaim sweeps, grain dryers, grain cleaners, dust collection systems, and aeration systems.
