For Vancouver, BC, Canada-based CMC Industrial Electronics, the company got its name from a combination of two unique factors.

CMC. Back in the late 1980s, Company Founder Doug Forst says a group of engineers left their firm and took on projects for the Canada Malting Corporation, naming themselves CMC Engineering.

Forst joined the business in the late 1990s and established CMC Industrial Electronics in 1997, in order to focus on the grain industry. It became an independent entity in 2005.

Industrial Electronics. “I always insisted on having a company name that said what you did,” says Forst. “That’s the reason behind ‘Industrial Electronics.’

“Today our name is recognized by the grain industry in two ways: We provide hazard monitoring products for things like bearing temperature, belt tracking, and belt speed. This helps protect grain elevators from explosion and fire.

“Also, we are present in the grain management space by providing the technology for grain temperature monitoring,” he adds.

Forst says that by harnessing the power of technology to monitor and protect equipment, machinery, and inventory, CMC today is trusted by some of the world’s largest companies to keep their facilities and people safe in hazardous working conditions.

In 2010, CMC established a U.S. office in Minnesota. Having grown from two people to 28, CMC is celebrating their 20th year anniversary in May.
