When Skyland Grain, LLC and United Prairie Ag (UPA) merged on Sept. 1, 2019, both companies were using AgTrax software for agribusiness.
David Gaddis, who came from UPA to assume the post of director of information technology at the combined company, says UPA had been an AgTrax customer since 2006 and Skyland had been using AgTrax since 2004.
“We’ve leaned on AgTrax to help with the merger, putting the companies together with multiple products and inventories,” Gaddis states. “AgTrax has helped facilitate our growth as a strong partner with a strong relationship.”
Skyland Grain, which traces its roots to September 1915, when farmers in southwestern Kansas formed a cooperative, has 29 locations in Kansas, three in Oklahoma, and four in eastern Colorado.
Skyland Grain uses AgTrax’s accounting software platform, TraxView, to track its accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and inventory, he says.
AgTrax’s AgRemote scale interface software traces all scale activities and ties scale receipts into Skyland’s accounting system. “Scale tickets from any one of our 36 locations go into our accounting system where we can view it virtually instantly,” explains Gaddis. “Our customers also can view the scale ticket on their cell phones.”
AgTrax’s OnlineAccess customer portal allows Skyland’s patrons the ability to see a history of their account transactions and to review and pay bills. “Our philosophy, and one of the reasons we partner with AgTrax, is the transparency and accessibility of the customers’ data that it allows,” he notes. “We can collect the information of our customers’ transactions, and then we can make that information easily accessible to them in a format they can use.”
Gaddis says the company’s agronomy software (AgWorks) interfaces very well with TraxView. “AgWorks works with AgTrax to fulfill our retailing needs for professional agronomy tools,” including mapping, retail, and other specific tools from Skyland’s suite of agronomy products. “AgTrax has the ability to support all of Skyland’s diverse business processes,” he adds, which was a key in the retention of AgTrax when the merger occurred last year.
